Happy New Year! I cannot believe that it is 2018 and 2017 is behind us. 2018 promises to be a very busy year for my family and me which means making self-care a priority in 2018 will be a necessity. So today I am going to talk about Self-Care New Year’s Resolutions (or goals).
I am not normally a New Year’s resolution person and this year is not going to be any different. Instead of resolutions, which I will break by week 2 of the year, I am making goals. Goals for my blog and personal goals. Today I want to talk about one the personal goals I have set for myself which is centered around self-care.
Self-care goal 1
My first goal is to learn more about different self-care practices. I am not an expert by any means, nor do I want to be. However, I do want to learn more and pass on my learnings to you. The areas I want to focus on in no particular order are:
- Physical self-care
- Emotional self-care
- Personal self-care
- Social self-care
- Spiritual self-care
- Mental self-care
I feel that all of these in some form are essential to having a well-rounded self-care practice. I do want to mention that what works for me might not work for you. But my goal is to try out many different activities, even ones that I know won’t work for me but may work for you.
Self-care goal 2
To start slowly implementing self-care practices into my daily life and making it a lifelong habit. For so many years as being a single mom, I put the needs of my kids before mine. Now that I am almost an empty nester I have the time to do so. I also realize that many of these things I should have been doing all along even when my kids were little (maybe I could have saved my sanity then). I have made mistakes by not taking care of me, so my hope is maybe someone can learn from my mistakes and start self-care practices earlier.
For this goal, I will look at many different ways to motivate, implement and/or keep track of the new self-care activities I want to incorporate into my life. As I stated above, what works for me might not work for you but I am going to try many different options and I will be sure to share them here.
Self-care goal 3
Consistency is going to be the final step in my self-care goals. I can learn all about the goals, I can start slowly implementing them into my life, but if I don’t consistently apply them then goals 1 and 2 will be a waste.
I am a big routine person. I love to plan out my day and know when and what I will be doing at a certain time. I plan my 8-5 workday this way and now I need to plan my blog and personal life the same. Since I still haven’t found a system that works best for me, I am going to take you all on my ride of finding what works and what doesn’t work. This one might be a little crazy, so hold on tight!
Final Thoughts
As I am writing this, the one thing I need to keep in mind is to make sure the goals I am setting are achievable and specific. In order for me to do this, I will need to break each of these into smaller goals which you will see throughout the course of this year.
Because I am still in the baby step phase of self-care, I would love some recommendations, strategies or anything you find useful to implementing self-care into your daily life.
Aside from what you already do for self-care activities, what would you love to learn more about? Leave your suggestions in the comments and I will work to provide you more information on whatever your heart’s desire.
Do you have any new self-care goals for the New Year? If so I want to hear about them all, no matter how big or small.
Smiles,
Jody
